Kbps stands for kilobits per second. However, on computers we use kilobytes and not kilobits. And 1 kilobyte is equivalent to 8 kilobits. So, essentially if you are on a 256 kbps plan, you are only going to get 32 kBps on your connection and not 256 kBps. Similarly, a 512 kbps plan would deliver 64 kBps. 1 mbps plan would deliver 128 kBps and so on. |
